In the 5 days of Haj, if one is in Mina, Arafaat or Muzdalifa and the day falls on Friday, is Jum’ah prayer compulsory?

Question:

In the 5 days of Haj, if one is in Mina, Arafaat or Muzdalifa and the day falls on Friday, is Jum’ah prayer compulsory?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Firstly, note the following:

–         Jum’ah in not compulsory on a musafir (traveller). However, if a musafir offers Jum’ah, it will be valid and he will not have to offer Zuhr.

–         Jum’ah is not allowed in Arafaat. If someone offers Jum’ah in Arafaat, it will not be valid. Zuhr should be offered in Arafaat.

–         Jum’ah is allowed in Mina during Hajj season.

Thus, if one is a musafir then he does not have to pray Jum’ah anywhere. However, if he wants to pray Jum’ah, then he may do so in Mina, but not in Arafaat.

If one is not a musafir, then he must offer Jum’ah in Mina. In Arafaat, he must offer Zuhr.

Performing Jum’ah in a masjid is not a condition; it can also be prayed in the tents in Mina. [1]
